Sleep & Snoring

Sleep disorders can be very serious and affect daily activities. Obstructive sleep apnea, or OSA, is a serious condition affecting more than twelve million Americans. This condition is due to blockage of air flow through the throat while sleeping.  OSA leads to decreased oxygen delivery to the body, termed oxygen desaturation. Forty-five percent of normal adults snore at least occasionally, and 25 percent are habitual snorers. Problem snoring is more frequent in males and overweight persons, and it usually grows worse with age. Snoring is an indication of obstructed breathing. Therefore, it should not be taken lightly.

An otolaryngologist can help determine the causes of sleep disorders and offer solutions. Central California Ear, Nose and Throat physicians use the latest diagnostic tools, including at-home sleep studies, and can provide both surgical and non-surgical treatment options.
